Apple’s WWDC2026! It is that time again, what’s good for us?

WWDC 2026 — Accessibility, AI, and the Future of Apple Devices.

Welcome to the April 2026 edition of the Paschall Power Newsletter—spring is here, and it feels like a new time in technology as Apple prepares for WWDC 2026 (June 8–12). This event happens every year and is Apple’s big “roadmap moment,” where it reveals what is next for the software that runs iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision devices. The “new products” being introduced are expected to be the next major operating systems—iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27—plus new developer tools that shape the apps we use every day. Think of an operating system as your device’s “core engine”: it controls how the device runs, how apps behave, how battery life is managed, and how features like privacy, performance, and accessibility work behind the scenes. The most expected headline is a major leap forward for Siri—often described as “Siri 2.0”—and the wider AI layer Apple calls Apple Intelligence. The idea is simple but powerful: Siri becomes more conversational (more like a chatbot), more capable, and more deeply built into the system so it can help across apps instead of just answering quick questions. “On-screen awareness” is one of the most anticipated upgrades—meaning Siri can understand what is on your display and respond based on what you are looking at. Another key discussion topic is a stronger AI foundation for developers, including improvements that help apps run advanced AI features directly on your device (this is called “on device” AI, meaning the processing happens on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac instead of always sending data to a server). The result Apple is aiming for: smarter assistance that feels faster, more private, and more useful in real life.

WWDC 2026 is also expected to highlight a “quality-first” approach across the board, especially with iOS 27. That means fewer flashy changes and more focus on stability—killing bugs, cleaning up old code, and streamlining performance so everyday use feels smoother (and potentially more battery-friendly). Apple is also expected to keep its “Liquid Glass” look while adding a customization control that lets you adjust how strong the transparent, glass-like effect appears. Behind the scenes, iOS 27 is also expected to prepare for future hardware, including a rumored foldable iPhone, with possible side-by-side multitasking (two apps at once) and updated app layouts designed for larger, flexible screens. Other rumored discussions include smarter built-in apps—like a calendar redesign with AI assistance and improved photo organization—and even early groundwork for advanced connectivity such as satellite-based cellular features for specific high-end models later. For blind consumers, the most interesting WWDC “products” are the ones that reduce friction: a smarter Siri, system refinements that make navigation more dependable, and the continued expansion of AI that can summarize, describe, and guide. Even with less focus on accessibility in the spotlight, the practical benefits are still real: a more capable voice assistant supports hands-free control, quicker information access, and easier multi-step tasks. When we look at the lineup for accessibility for blind and low vision people, the best part is that Apple’s strengths typically live at the system level—so improvements ripple everywhere. The most important software pieces include VoiceOver (screen reader), Spoken Content (reads text aloud), Magnifier/Zoom (enlarge content), and braille display support—features that often improve when the operating system becomes faster and more stable. Add the expected AI direction—better summarizing, smarter context, and improved understanding of what you are doing—and the experience can become more efficient without needing brand-new hardware.

Finally, let’s answer the big AI question clearly: What updates will WWDC 2026 have for Siri, and will Siri pair with Gemini? The expected direction is that Siri’s next generation will be powered by a custom language model derived from Gemini, meaning Apple’s assistant can gain more advanced “brainpower” while still being presented as a familiar Siri experience. In simple terms, a “language model” is the AI system that understands and generates human-like responses; pairing it with Siri means Siri can handle more complex requests, follow context better, and respond more naturally. Where is Apple Intelligence going? The expected path is deeper integration across Apple’s platforms—Siri and AI becoming a built-in layer that supports search, organization, summaries, and actions across apps, while also enabling developers to run more AI features directly on-device. And as a bonus surprise category, WWDC 2026 could also include discussion or previews around Macs and smart-home hardware—like updated pro Macs and a rumored home hub—making this spring’s WWDC feel like Apple is quietly assembling the next big chapter of its ecosystem. Watch those older iPhones & mobile devices, the security is vulnerable!

Red alert button

Older iPhones, the “Coruna” Exploit, and the Myth of Perfect Security. Recent security research has confirmed that older iPhones can be vulnerable to a sophisticated exploit framework known as “Coruna.” An exploit is a method attackers use to take advantage of software weaknesses, often without the user doing anything more than visiting a compromised website. Coruna targets iPhones to run significantly outdated versions of iOS, primarily those that no longer receive current security updates. This does not mean every older iPhone is instantly compromised, but it does mean unsupported software is risky software. Coruna works by chaining together multiple vulnerabilities, which are flaws in the operating system’s code. By linking these flaws, attackers can bypass Apple’s built-in protections and gain deep access to a device. In plain language, this means the attacker can potentially read stored data, track activity, or install malicious software without obvious warning signs. Devices running much newer versions of iOS are protected because Apple has already patched, or fixed, the weaknesses Coruna relies on.

This situation brings us to the long-standing myth: “iPhones cannot be hacked.” The truth is more nuanced. iPhones are more secure than many devices because of Apple’s controlled ecosystem and fast security updates. However, “more secure” does not mean “invincible.” Any computer, including a smartphone, can be compromised if it runs outdated software or if attackers discover new flaws. The falsehood is believing security is automatic and permanent; the truth is security is an ongoing process. For blind and low vision users, staying informed about these risks is especially important. Assistive technology users often rely on their phones for banking, communication, navigation, and medical access. That makes security personal, not abstract. This is why the Paschall Power Newsletter team is excited in always updating readers on topics that mean everything to us, the blind community. Staying informed is not about fear; it is about control, and control is accessibility’s quiet cousin. Activate the following link for more about the new iPhone virus targeting older devices💡

Does this Windows Feature predict the future of your hard drive?

CPU with binary numbers and blueprint

The Hidden Windows Feature That Tells You When Your Drive Is Tired.

Windows includes a built-in feature that can tell you how much life your computer’s storage drive has left, and most users never hear about it. This feature is based on SMART, which stands for Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology. SMART is a system inside modern hard drives and solid-state drives that tracks wear, errors, and reliability. In short, your drive keeps score on itself, and Windows knows how to read that score. In modern versions of Windows, especially Windows 11, users can access this information through system storage settings or built-in command-line tools such as PowerShell. These tools report drive health, estimated remaining life, and reliability status. “Estimated remaining life” is exactly what it sounds like: a percentage-based estimate of how much usable lifespan the drive has left based on manufacturer data and real usage. If Windows says reliability is degraded, it is not being dramatic; it is politely warning you before things go very wrong.

If a drive is nearing the end of its life, replacing it does not have to be expensive or complicated. Solid-state drives, or SSDs, are now widely available at reasonable prices and offer significant speed improvements over older mechanical hard drives. For many users, a basic SSD upgrade can dramatically improve system responsiveness, including faster screen reader startup and quicker file access. External drives and USB enclosures can also be used for backups, which is not optional but essential. Activate the following link for more about the Windows storage/hard drive analysis feature💡

“Find It Fast, Live with Confidence: Why NFC Tags Are a Gamechanger for Blind and Older Adults”

3D smartphone graphic

Have you ever wished your home could talk to you without costing a fortune? Enter the incredible world of NFC tags! NFC stands for “Near Field Communication,” which is a technical term simply meaning your smartphone can instantly share information with a tiny, wireless sticker when you tap them together. While many people spend twenty to thirty dollars on bulky “smart buttons” that constantly need new batteries and complicated hubs, NFC tags are a complete gamechanger. These little marvels cost less than a dollar each, are paper-thin, and never need a battery because they draw a tiny bit of power directly from your smartphone during that quick tap. It is an incredibly affordable, brilliant piece of technology that makes organizing your life so much easier!

A Guiding Light for Your Daily Routine

For our friends in the blind and low-vision community, especially those who might be getting a bit older, this simple technology is wonderfully empowering. The Paschall Power Newsletter Team highly recommends NFC tags to help with locating items around the home, especially if you happen to have “a lot of stuff” to keep track of! Instead of fumbling around trying to identify similar-feeling boxes or cans, you simply wave your smartphone over a sticker and let your phone’s screen reader (like VoiceOver or TalkBack) announce exactly what you are holding. It completely removes the frustration of misplaced items, providing an inviting and deeply comforting way to bring independence and joy back into your daily routine.

Practical and Empowering Technology

The real beauty lies in how practical and adaptable these tags are for your personal needs. You do not need to be a computer genius to set them up; modern smartphones have built-in NFC readers that work seamlessly with accessible mobile apps. Because these tags are durable little stickers or plastic discs, you can place them anywhere—from the freezing cold of your freezer to the dampness of a laundry room—without worrying about them breaking. They offer a reliable way to navigate your home, ensuring that you always know exactly what is in front of you with just a gentle, reassuring tap of your phone.

3 Real-Life Examples for Everyday Independence

  • Medication Management: Stick an NFC tag on the bottom or lid of your prescription bottles. When you tap it with your phone, it can instantly read out the medication name, dosage instructions, and the expiration date, ensuring you always take the right medicine safely.
  • Pantry Organization: Place tags on canned goods, spices, or leftover containers in the fridge. A quick tap will immediately tell you if you are holding a can of diced tomatoes or a can of peaches, making cooking and snacking a stress-free experience.
  • Sorting Laundry and Clothing: You can attach specialized, waterproof NFC buttons to the tags of your clothing to identify the color, pattern, and washing instructions of your favorite garments. This makes picking out a matching outfit in the morning completely seamless!

Where to Find and Purchase NFC Tags

Finding NFC tags is incredibly easy, and they are widely available online in various shapes, from standard stickers to durable plastic discs.

  • Online Retailers: Websites like Amazon offer bulk packs of NFC stickers for just a few dollars, which is perfect if you have a lot of items to label.
  • Specialty RFID Stores: Websites like GoToTags and atlasRFIDstore sell a wide variety of tags, including heavy-duty options and keychains.
  • Accessibility Brands: For a solution explicitly designed for the blind and low-vision community, a company called WayAround sells specially textured NFC tags, laundry buttons, and magnets that pair directly with their fully accessible app.

Paschall Power Star of the Month: Ms. Haben Girma!

We have reached the end of our 29th edition, you know what that means, right? Yes indeed, it is time to honor the Paschall Power Star for April 2026, and this incredible mind made systemic change for the blind community, Ms. Haben Girma. When speaking about “digital accessibility,” this def/blind Harvard lawyer took the system on and won! When speaking of fighting for rights, advocating for yourself, Haben, is a true leader and mentor for future blind/def female and male lawyers.

Shining Without Limits: Haben Girma, Paschall Power Star for April 2026

Glowing stars at night

Haben Girma was born on July 29, 1988, in Oakland, California, to an Eritrean immigrant family. Her mother had fled Eritrea to Sudan as a refugee during the Ethiopian Civil War in 1983, later meeting Girma’s father, who was also Eritrean but born in California. Born deafblind, Girma never viewed her disability as something to overcome, but rather saw ableism as the primary barrier she faced in society. Growing up, she learned to advocate for herself early on; while attending Lewis & Clark College, she successfully fought for her legal right to accommodations in the school cafeteria. This early advocacy paved the way for her remarkable academic journey, leading her to graduate magna cum laude in 2010 before making history in 2013 as the first deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School. Following her groundbreaking graduation, Girma dedicated her legal career to fighting for digital accessibility and the rights of the blind and disabled. In 2013, she joined Disability Rights Advocates as a Skadden Fellowship Attorney. During her tenure, she achieved a monumental victory by representing the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and a blind mother from Vermont in a landmark lawsuit against Scribd, a digital reading subscription service. The lawsuit successfully challenged Scribd’s inaccessible platform, arguing that the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies not just to physical locations, but to online businesses and digital services as well. This precedent-setting case forced the tech industry to acknowledge that digital exclusion is a violation of civil rights, cementing her status as a formidable force in disability justice.

Today, Girma is an award-winning author, keynote speaker, and global advocate who views disability challenges as opportunities for innovation. She has been recognized with the Helen Keller Achievement Award, named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and honored by President Barack Obama as a White House Champion of Change. Because of her relentless pursuit of digital equality and her unwavering commitment to dismantling barriers for the blind community, she is a shining star among the Paschall Power Stars and proudly stands as our Paschall Power Star for April 2026. Her legacy continues to prove that inclusion drives progress, making her an enduring inspiration for advocates everywhere. Activate the following link for more about the amazing Haben Girma💡
